The first week of April, Michael started feeling sick like he was catching the flu and was itchy all over his body. He went in on April 4th to see his doctor and he did blood work on him and told him he would have the results back on Monday, April 8th. While waiting for the blood work results, Michael still wasn't feeling well and on Saturday, he began to look yellow on his skin and the whites of his eyes. He went to Instacare and they sent him immediately to the hospital as they assumed it was liver failure. At the emergency room at Mountain Point in Lehi, they admitted him into the hospital to find a resolution. After multiple tests including an MRI, the doctors told him his liver appeared normal and and his biliruben count was high. They diagnosed him with gall stones on April 8th and scheduled surgery for April 9th at 6:00am to remove his gallbladder as he had all the symptoms of gallstones except he had no pain. After the surgery, Michael went home to recover, however the doctors did not find any galls stones as they completed the surgery. The following day while at home, his biliruben count started to increase again and he was still yellow and slightly itchy. The doctors wanted to run more lab tests to determine what was causing this. By Saturday April 13th, Michael was admitted back to the hospital as his biliruben numbers had doubled since his surgery. By this point, Michael was using PTO and sick time to help while he was in the hospital, however he is running out of paid time off and the doctors were back to square one to determine the cause of this. The GI specialist that was brought in to help wanted to run more tests to find some answers - he thought there may be something in the GI tract. With the new tests performed, they found an abnormality at the opening of his bile duct and would need to perform ERCP (Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) to either put in a stent at the opening of the bile duct if it was collapsing or to remove the growth if there was one and do a biopsy on it. The ERCP was done on Monday, April 15th and they found a very small gall stone but the doctor said that wouldn't have been causing any issues due to its size and he placed a stent in his bile duct to see if that would help clear out Michael's system. By later that evening, Michael took a turn for the worse -- he was in extreme pain that couldn't be controlled with the morphine, he would thrown up anytime he would try to stand up and he had to be put on oxygen as his levels began to drop. The doctors took some x-rays of his lungs wanted to check for pneumonia. Through more tests, an ultrasound and x-rays, the doctors determined he has pancreatitis and began treating him for that, however that is not the cause for all the other symptoms that the doctors are trying to find a diagnosis for. By Tuesday April 16th, Michael's biliruben numbers went up to 9.7 from 8.7 the day before. As of Wednesday April 7th, they started him on a different pain medication which seems to be helping control his pain and the medication for the pancreatitis seems to be helping his pancreas, however they still do not know what is causing the other symptoms such as the increased biliruben, itching, ill-feeling as well as now his white blood cell count continues to increase. With all of this going on with Michael, Keena has been right by his side and they have family and friends helping with their children. They are so thankful for all the help, calls, texts, and outpouring of love they have received during this time. The Williams' are amazing and such examples of service and giving. If you are able to donate to help them with the medical costs that are arising through this, they would greatly appreciate it. Also, please keep them in your prayers as they feel those and it lifts them and carries them through this tough time as they work to find a resolution for Michael.
