Michael Weinstein Berestovsky fight with Duchenne

Dear Friends,

My name is Michael Weinstein Berestovsky, and I am reaching out for your support during a critical time in my life. I have been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive disease that causes severe muscle weakness and loss. Currently, there is no cure, and my condition has advanced quickly—I lost my ability to walk this year and now rely on a wheelchair.

There is hope for me through an experimental treatment available in Germany. This promising option could significantly impact my health, but it comes with a high cost. While my family has worked hard to raise funds, we still need assistance to cover the remaining expenses.

Despite the challenges I’ve faced battling with MD, I am passionate about learning and exploring the world around me. I have a deep interest in geography, history, economics, politics, and law. I spend my afternoons studying nations and hand-drawing detailed maps, which has helped me master the capitals of both current and historic countries.

Music is another passion of mine. I play the piano and have achieved success in several competitions, with my sights set on an international competition in New York next year. Music provides me with an escape, a realm where dreams come alive.

Inspired by my own experiences, I aspire to study law and advocate for individuals with disabilities. My goal is to combat bullying in schools and support those facing similar challenges.

I am fortunate to have a loving and supportive family. My mother dedicates her time to my care, while my father works tirelessly to provide for us and assist with my physical needs. I also have encouraging grandparents and an aunt who rally behind me.
