Purpose: Create Michael D Terry Memorial Scholarship Fund(s)

Priorities:
(1) Create a scholarship to support a student wanting to pursue vocational/technical training programs, like automotive technology, welding; and
(2) Create a scholarship fund for students in the Public and Community Health program at Murray State University.

Background:
As I've made it to my 36th year of life, I have been reflecting on how I am the same age as my dad when he passed away from cancer. I often wonder if he would be proud of the woman I have become.

My dad was my superhero. He brought joy and laughter to so many people in his short life. I aspire to be like him and live by the values he instilled in me. As I pondered ways to bring this type of joy to other people in his honor, I thought about what was important to him. He ensured that I was provided the means necessary to go to college, therefore, creating the Michael D Terry Memorial Scholarship Fund(s) is the perfect way to honor him and make a positive difference in people's lives.

Why these priorities?
(1) Create a scholarship to support a student wanting to pursue vocational/technical training programs, like automotive technology, welding.

My grandpas and dad were auto mechanics. I was taught how to change flat tires, change oil, weld, build go carts, etc. with my dad. He was a Ford service technician. Vocational and technical programs are not as encouraged as they once were. These jobs are very important and much needed. We are already starting to see a shortage of skilled workers in vocational and technical careers. To foster an individual who might want to pursue this career path that meant so much to members of my family, it makes sense for this to be the first priority and provide financial assistance as extra encouragement for someone in need to pursue a vocational training program.

(2) Create a scholarship fund for students in the Public and Community Health program at Murray State University.

I am the director of the Public and Community Health program at Murray State University. This is a relatively new program that does not have any alumni donating to the program to provide funding and resources for the current students. Similar to my father ensuring I had the means to go to college, creating a scholarship fund for the Public and Community Health program will do the same for the students.

Thank you
I have opened myself up to you sharing intimate stories about my dad and the influence he still has over my life. Thank you for reading and considering contributing to the Michael D Terry Memorial Scholarship Fund(s). The more money raised with this campaign, the more scholarships are able to be developed. Each school has a specific amount required to create scholarship funds. Ideally, $20,000 will be donated to each school as it will be a sustainable scholarship fund for life. I can think of no better way to honor my dad than this. I hope you contribute to the cause. For those who knew my dad, I hope you share your stories with me in the comments.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Miranda Terry
