Michael Roman (Mr. Roman) and his Mother

Hi, my name is William K. Ngor, and on behalf of myself and Jason Gong, we are starting this GoFundMe for not only a favorite teacher of ours but also our mentor.

Mr. Roman, or as we know him (Michael), was a teacher for 25 years at Galileo High School, where he passionately taught literature and his own course titled "Disney Lit." Mr. Roman didn't just teach a traditional English class; he taught life lessons and ways to explore our creativity. Mr. Roman would bring his students out to the Disney Museum to showcase how it is never too late to find our potential and strive for growth. Just like how Walt Disney came up with the idea for Disney Land while sitting on a park bench, Mr. Roman always reminded us to never give up on ourselves and to seek out the beauty and magic within the present.

Former students of Mr. Roman remember his willingness to go above and beyond to not only provide educational enrichment inside the class but outside as well. We have seen time and time again how Mr. Roman has stepped in to help any person he can, whether it be donating yearly to food shelters before the holidays or just listening to a student vent. Mr. Roman isn't just a former teacher; he is a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration who has helped students gain confidence and find their path through his guidance.

After seeing the outpouring of love and support from former students and friends, it is safe to say that Mr. Roman has touched many throughout the years with his kindness, empathy, and willingness to lend a hand.

Recently, Mr. Roman and his mother have faced struggles involving medical bills, rising rent costs, and the threat of moving due. Like many of us, the rising costs and reduction in insurance benefits have placed Mr. Roman and his mother in a precarious situation. Mr. Roman's mother recently underwent cataract surgery, and due to a decrease in insurance benefits, Mr. Roman and his mother need to cover their glasses out of pocket. Additionally, Mr. Roman needs treatment and surgery to repair his pelvis, which has been causing him severe pain and discomfort over the past few months. Coupled with hidden rent increases, Mr. Roman's need for chiropractor visits, and frequent medical check-ups, Michael needs our help more than ever.

Our goal is to raise enough money to help Mr. Roman and his mom afford to pay off their medical bills, fund Michael's pelvis treatment, purchase new glasses, cover moving expenses, and provide a cushion for future medical appointments and procedures. So far, the expenses for his rent increase and current medical expenses total $4,200, not including the treatment and operations he needs for his pelvis treatment.

Therefore, Jason and I are reaching out with this GoFundMe to call once again for students, friends, and family to lend a hand to a man who has given his kindness and care to so many.
