Unfortunately I lost my wonderful husband of 61 years, Mick, after battling Parkinson’s Disease for 10 years.

In the last couple of years he developed Parkinson’s dementia and in the final stages pneumonia, which ended his life.

It’s a very cruel disease of which there is no cure.

It was heartbreaking to see such a strong and determined man deteriorate mentally and physically so quickly, especially in his final months.

Parkinson’s dementia made him forgetful, hallucinate and lose touch with reality which caused him to live in constant fear.

Glimpses of the real Mick gave me strength to carry on looking after him in our home without having to send him into care, which was one of his greatest fears.

He will be sorely missed by myself, our four children and grandchildren.

Hopefully in the near future researchers will develop a technique for earlier diagnosis, more effective treatment and ultimately a cure.
