On the morning of May 10, 2018, a fire started at 10 Glendale in San Francisco. This was the home of my uncle and brother. All the tenants are safe, but they are all homeless. The building management gave us until Thursday, May 17th at 5pm to pack up all our things and find other places to live for 9 to 12 months.
This is particularly bad for my uncle and brother because they were helping each other to live independently. My uncle is a 84 year old man suffering from the early stages of dementia and my brother is a 53 year old man who is developmentally disabled and while they can not live alone, they were making it work together.
My husband and I have taken my brother into our home in Petaluma and my uncle is currently staying at Victorian Manor in San Francisco. We are all very grateful to OnLok and the Institute on Aging for helping us.
My uncle and brother live on very limited incomes so there is not a great deal of money for the expenses they have incurred because of the fire. On Wednesday,
May 16, 2018 I arranged for Master Movers to come in and pack/move/store all of my uncle’s and brother’s things. This move was incredibly difficult and expensive. It was $5,311.
Any contribution you can make would be so appreciated.
