Michael's life took a sudden turn when, at the age of 46, he experienced sudden heart failure. During Michael's battle with this  rare, progressive, degenerative, and terminal heart condition, the medical team at the Mayo Clinic saved his life multiple times.  Now, 13 years later, Michael's cardiac team told him and his family, "It's time."  Michael's only option is to have a heart transplant.  

The average heart transplant is 1.5 million dollars. Insurance only covers some of this cost. Your donation will help Michael and his family afford this significant non-reimbursable out of pocket expenses, both pre-and-post surgery.

As you can imagine, it’s been a very long road for Michael and his family. There have been endless challenges and defeats as well as uplifting moments and times of hope. A PERSONAL NOTE FROM MICHAEL AND ROBIN:

When my health issues first started, my wife Robin and I had no idea it would lead us to where we are today. No one expects something like this to happen and the path leading to our present state has been difficult. When you find yourself in circumstances that are so far beyond the scope of your experience, there is a sense of isolation, and perhaps even a desperation that sets in. It’s as if we are being swept up in a whirlwind of events which seem impossible and yet are really happening. You feel cut off and separate from the normal life others are living around you. It has been in these darkest moments when there is no center to the madness and no light in which to see, that my family and friends took up the burden we could not bear alone. This support has continued to sustain us through our daily struggle to come to grips with the crushing impact my illness has had on our life. Without it, we would be completely undone. 

Having said that, we are equally overwhelmed to see how this support has grown and spread to include the many generous hearts of those who do not even know us, but nevertheless want to give out of their own kindness and love. If there is a silver lining to our situation, it has been the gift of seeing the scope of our need matched by the magnitude of the love which has been shown to us. In the darkness of these times, it is this love and support that has been our light. It is difficult to find the words to express how much we appreciate you.  We are at once overwhelmed and humbled to be the recipient of such generosity. Your contributions of time, energy and money have helped more than you know. We wish to thank everyone whose love continues to help carry us through another day.
