Michael Durand, our beloved brother, amazing friend, mentor, self-taught talented musician and respected Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of two San Francisco west-side newspapers, needs our help.
He has recently been diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. Tests conclude it’s widely spread and has been detected in his liver, lungs and bones. After consulting with his medical team and gaining a deeper understanding of the extent of his cancer, he has chosen to forgo any treatment and will go into hospice to live out his remaining days cared for in his apartment in San Francisco.
It’s been difficult for him to take care of himself without the help of his many dear San Francisco friends who have gone above and beyond to help him with his day-to-day tasks. His disease is now so advanced that his daily living activities are outside the scope of what friends and family can do and it is time to take the next step which is where hospice comes in. We are grateful for their support because hospice is Michael’s wish and he will be greatly cared for in his final days.
So we ask for your support to help contribute what you can to cover the extensive costs anticipated for his day-to-day care at home that include things like meals, clean laundry, medication and round-the-clock nursing assistance, plus ambulatory transportation to Pasadena, if he’s physically able, at some point, to be closer to family.
Thank you so much for your help.
With the deepest of gratitude,
