Support Michael Davis's Heart Surgery

Hafa adai family and friends, my name is Mikaela Atoigue and I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of my nephew, Michael James Davis.

Michael James Atoigue Davis is 17 years old and a junior at George Washington High School located in Guam. He was raised by his grandparents. When Michael was born, he was diagnosed with an atrial septal defect (ASD) or more commonly known as a heart murmurs (holes in the wall of the heart). In his case, he was born with several murmurs. Most children born with ASD see the defect close over time but unfortunately Michael's didn't. After 14 years of regular check-ups monitoring his condition, his doctors decided right before COVID hit that he would need surgery to repair the holes in addition to the development of right ventricular enlargement. Because of the pandemic, his surgery had to be postponed. Now that it has ended, we have resumed his procedure process. He will be receiving his medical treatment in the mainland with the lack in services here in Guam and staying for the recommended 6-8 weeks for follow-ups and recovery. Our goal is that he undergo his surgery and recovery next summer before he starts off his exciting college journey in the fall. All funds raised will be going to the medical costs that surpass insurance coverage in addition to travel and room and board expenses for him, his grandmother, and hopefully a third family member to assist them.

As a child, he had a passion for building blocks, SpiderMan, and hiding stolen candy wrappers under the bed. Today, he is an encyclopedia for music, video games and all things math-related. After graduating from high school, he dreams of attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study software engineering. We take joy in the fact that he has so much life to live and he can live it long and well because this surgery can help him avoid severe health issues in the future.
