Mike Niles needs an assist

This Go Fund Me page is made available to Cal State Fullerton alumni and friends of Michael D. Niles. I'm limiting it to the select few who had an intimate knowledge of my personality and character BEFORE my conviction and life sentence for murder in 1984. Because you are the ones who knew me best, I believe you may have forgiveness in your hearts.

This isn't a ploy. I'm not trying to manipulate. I'm not trying to get rich. My financial goal is just a few thousand dollars. But I need help in financing my education, which is part of the requirement for my long awaited release from Mule Creek State Prison. After a clean disciplinary record for 35 years, the State of California has finally set my parole date for 2028. Thank God! But with your help, I believe I can be a free man in half that time.

According to State criteria, I am a "low risk inmate for release." We have goals called "mile stones." Every mile stone reached means a reduction of four to six weeks in a sentence. Mile stones include certification in self-help groups and college level courses. But they're not easy. They're not cheap. And they take valuable time.

My prison job pays a prison rate: 45-cents-an-hour. Food was in short supply before the pandemic. Now it's worse. But without work, it's an even tougher grind. So, without help, school poses a big financial problem.

I'm on a waiting list for Counseling 105 and Computer Coding, the first of many courses. Once enrolled, I'll have to buy my own books and materials. But unless I'm able to devote myself one hundred percent to studies, I'm not sure I can complete the criteria the parole board has set before me, let alone survive.

So, please! Whatever amount you could give would be treasured and appreciated. I hope to share my life story with troubled kids and adults once I'm finally released. Hopefully, they'll take stock of what they're doing and make changes in their lives. But NOW! Not after 35-years in prison.

Thank you. God Bless you.
