Michael Clapp is badly hurt, but he CAN recover with your help.
If you’re reading this, chances are good you know Michael and his wife Anna, so we’ll go
directly to the awful facts. Here’s what happened…
Michael was riding his motorcycle, on his way home, the evening of December 1st. According
to the police report, while passing through a roundabout, for reasons unknown he was thrown
from his motorcycle. Michael landed on the other side of the roundabout in the opposite lane.
Perhaps he hit a curb. Perhaps another vehicle was involved. An anonymous caller dialed 911
and said they saw a body on the road, but the caller didn’t stop and render assistance, so it’s
possible Michael was hit by a vehicle. He doesn’t remember the accident.
Michael’s injuries are serious. They include:
An open femur fracture (a compound fracture in his leg, bone protruded through his thigh). He
had surgery on his femur and had a rod inserted. This will take at least two months to heal.
Lacerations of his forehead and face (literally the skin was ripped off) that required skin graft
surgery. One laceration was incredibly close to his left eye, and further optometric analysis is
required to determine if Michael’s eye is damaged.
Other skin abrasions (road rash) all over his body which required more skin graft surgery.
A patellar fracture at his kneecap. He had surgery, and a fastener was inserted. Michael has to
wear an immobilizer full-leg cast to keep his knee straight for at least 6 weeks.
Michael’s breathing and movements of his upper body are difficult and painful due to a severely
bruised sternum.
He was in the hospital for 6 days, and now he’s home.
What comes next?
Michael is unable to walk at all right now, and he needs to go through extensive physical
therapy to properly heal his leg. He is very weak, especially in his upper body. He can’t bend or
move his knee. His skin WILL heal eventually, but the road rash on the palms of his hands
makes it impossible for him to use a walker or crutches.
Anna has to give Michael an injection every day to prevent blood clots from developing in his
immobile leg. He is seriously injured, in much pain, and needs a lot of help and therapy.
And of course, Michael can't do his regular work as a handyman, contractor, and restoration
specialist. Meanwhile, Anna must work LESS so she can be home to take care of him. Imagine
the difficulties he has simply eating and going to the bathroom!
So we need your help. Michael needs therapy and medicine and time to heal. And Anna needs
to help him through this emergency. [optional There is no insurance to cover these expenses].
Anything you give will help tremendously. The costs for this emergency are difficult to estimate,
so we set the goal at $10,000, and we hope the people who care about Michael and Anna,
people like you, can help them through this awful tragedy. Thank you.
