Michael "Bubba" Allen Wheelock's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my brother, Michael “Bubba” Wheelock on March 26, 2023. Michael was admitted to the University of Maryland Hospital ICU in Glen Burnie on December 22, 2022, where it was discovered he was suffering from heart failure. After several weeks he was transferred to Washington Hospital Center ICU where he was stable enough to have a successful heart valve replacement. Unfortunately, soon after his kidneys began to fail. He had to be ventilated at several points during his hospital stay and ultimately given a tracheotomy. He had been learning how to talk, swallow and walk again and we were all hopeful he was on the right track and would be released to go home soon. He was transferred to a rehabilitation center just eight days before he passed away in his sleep.

This is a huge loss for his wife, Shawn, and the rest of our family. This GoFundMe is being set up to offset his funeral and medical expenses, which are expected to be massive due to his extensive ICU stay, heart surgery and other procedures. Unfortunately, Michael didn’t have life insurance and was limited in his ability to work and save for end-of-life expenses.

Thank you for remembering Michael and considering a contribution. His obituary can be found below.

Michael “Bubba” Allen Wheelock, loving husband, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023. He was born on October 19, 1964, in Seat Pleasant, Maryland to Herbert and Rosemary Wheelock. Michael was loved and known by so many after working over two decades as an usher at the Bowie Baysox stadium, which was like a family to him. He always greeted everyone with a smile.

Michael is survived by his wife of 12 years, Shawn Marie Wheelock. He is also survived by his beloved siblings, Herbert Wheelock, Jr. (Pamela), Charles Wheelock (Susan), Karen Dunn (David), Stacy Wheelock and sister-in-law, Terri Wheelock. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Wheelock and his parents. Michael was a caring and doting uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews, often calling to check in on them. Michael will be deeply missed by his many friends, including Eddie Dovel, Craig Fisher, Frank Smith, Mark Pierson and so many more. “Bubba” was a special friend to all that crossed his path and was hard to forget.

Michael was a passionate sports fan and could talk to you about any sport. He was a frequent caller to sports radio, especially 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore where he always asked, “Got the lineup?” He supported many different minor league baseball teams and traveled to their stadiums. He also went to the Washington Redskins/Commanders training camp for many years. He and his wife were avid bowlers and enjoyed being in bowling leagues with their friends.

Michael volunteered for many years at the local Boys and Girls Club, and he also loved spending time with his dog, MoMo, who kept him company during his many health struggles.

The family is planning a memorial for Michael in the coming months, which will be posted on Facebook. The family wishes to thank everyone for their kind words about Michael.
