Michael Bishop Memorial

Donation protected
In memory of Michael Bishop.

With heavy hearts, Michael Bishop's family and his business partner at Five/Four Productions Thom Moore, have created this memorial fund as a way to honor his life and work. All donations will be used to help his family directly with the overwhelming medical expenses and final expenses incurred as the result of a tragic accident. Because of the nature of Michael's injury,  Michael was life flighted to the main campus of University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio where he received highly skilled medical attention. Michael did not wish for a memorial service and especially during these pandemic times, we feel this is the best way for all the people who loved and admired Michael to honor him. Michael's wife Wendy Bishop will be the sole beneficiary of the Memorial Fund as Michael would have wished. Thank you for your generosity and consideration.

Husband, father, grandfather, friend, recording engineer, Michael Bishop was passionate about life. On March 27, 2021 Michael suffered a catastrophic injury as the result of an accident at his home in Burton, Ohio. Michael died on March 29, 2021 leaving behind a legacy of love and recordings sure to live in the hearts of his cherished loved ones and peers forever.
Michael was the recipient of 10 Grammy Awards for his work as a recording engineer for the Telarc label as well as with Five/Four Productions, a company he co-founded with his colleagues from the famed Telarc production department. A giant in the audio industry, Michael also delighted in giving back to young engineers by serving on industry committees, publishing articles, granting interviews, and providing hands on experience by serving as a mentor to many. He freely passed along his deep wealth of knowledge to anyone who asked, and challenged all who worked with him to find solutions to the most difficult situations which ultimately created the ultimate artistic expression of recorded sound. His techniques for capturing sound were legendary and stand as a model for engineers all over the world.

As passionate as Michael was about engineering, his true love was for his family. Michael leaves behind his wife Wendy, the love of his life. Michael and Wendy were married for 41 years. His daughters Brianna and Amber were his joy in life that he delighted in sharing so much of life's wonders with, and little granddaughter Stella brought out the playful side of Michael. He loved the outdoors and his horses. Michael would often take his dogs with him for company when working late hours at the studio. Home was of utmost importance for Michael. It was there where he truly felt himself, surrounded by the things he loved and surrounded by love. While on session it would not be unusual for Michael to take the last flight out of town in order to be home as soon as possible.
Michael was a genius, talented, generous, kind, gentle, a true friend to many. His loss leaves a huge hole in the hearts of so many. We are so fortunate to be able to listen to his recordings as a reminder of the man Michael was.
