Michael and Martha Shannon: Flood Recovery Fund

On the evening of July 6, 2025, a low depression rain storm sat on top of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and the surrounding areas. 47 homes were destroyed in Carrboro by severe flooding and countless automobiles totaled. Only a few short years ago, FEMA informed the town of Carrboro that the area destroyed by the July 6th flooding was NOT in a flood plain. As a result, all family homes did not purchase flood insurance. Now, because of no flood insurance, many families throughout this section of North Carolina have had their lives upended with devastation and financial hardship and need to start over. MICHAEL and MARTH SHANNON lost everything (clothes, cars, appliances, furniture, etc.) but their two cats and the bones of their home and are now living temporarily with their children in both Graham and Asheville, NC until contractors can be confirmed, automobiles purchased, and hard decisions about the future to be made. Now is the time for our community to come together and help Michael and Martha, a beautiful couple about to face starting over in their 70s. Please put yourself in their shoes for a moment and consider the shock, the pain, the depression and the tall mountain to climb as they approach the twilight of their lives and rebuilding from scratch. This GoFundMe and your help will offer a bit of hope and lots of love and support that Michael and Martha can use in this moment. If you have $5 to spare (or more, if you're able), please consider helping. Thank you so much.
