Micah's newborn medical bills
Donation protected
Micah was born in May 2019. In June, 37 days after his delivery, I attempted to add him to my insurance. It was then that I realized our company's plan only allowed for a 30-day window to add dependents, whereas all of the other companies I have worked for allowed for a 60-day window.
Micah is our sixth child, and our family was forced to move homes when he was a week old. My husband works two jobs, and most of the planning and packing was left up to me. In addition, I was finishing out my first semester of my Information Systems degree program, as well as supporting my teenagers as they finished out their Spring semesters. Sometimes things get missed, even with the best intentions.
I went through 2 appeals and had conversations with HR to try to get Micah added to my insurance, all to no avail. I was informed that my baby's delivery costs and initial medical bills would be out-of-pocket. Micah cannot be part of my insurance policy until the year 2020.
Unfortunately, like many Americans, a big reason I work is for the medical benefits. Having to cover costs out-of-pocket will be a huge set-back to our family.
I am not asking for help to fund the entirety of my baby's delivery bills. I realize that had I added him to my insurance sooner, none of this would have happened. However, sometimes life makes it nearly impossible to do things on the prescribed timeline.
I am very grateful for anything you can offer!
