Micah's journey ahead
Meet Micah, this little boy should be playing the drums at church this Sunday as he does every Sunday, he should be getting out of school this afternoon, engaging in cricket with the children on the playground, and leading family prayer before supper. But he is not, he is recovering from an emergency spinal cord operation that saved his life.
Just weeks ago Micah came home from school complaining of back pain, alarming to his mother, as he so rarely complained of anything. After being admitted to their local hospital in Grenada, they found a venous malformation in his spine that was evolving by the second. He remained in their local hospital with limited tools, diagnostics, and an under developed medical intervention plan, which is necessary and timely to treat this condition.
With the great effort of a local classmates mother, and a Miami neurologist, native to Grenada, Micah was blessed with the opportunity to be air lifted to Miami to receive the operation he needed to save his life. In the states, this finding would have been surgically treated within hours, and he may have walked out of the hospital, his high spirited, youthful self. But because Micah’s circumstances were much less fortunate, he will spend the rest of his life confined to a wheelchair. Not only is Micah going to lose his mobility, but he also will face other challenges as he has lost control of his bowels and bladder. Friends imagine this for one moment. This is not easy for anyone. At just 9 years old, Micah is going through a transition that no child should ever have to face.
The youngest of four children, and the baby to his family, everyone is looking to God and asking “Why Micah?” He was vibrant, energetic, and happy without a worry in his skies, as most 9 year old boys should be; now he is learning a new normal. Micah’s father is choking back tears, and his mother is fearing what lies ahead for her little boy. As this family is forced to adjust their vision, they are also facing insurmountable financial burdens to gain access to the therapy and medical equipment Micah is desperately requiring; before returning to their home in the Carribbean where resources are severely
limited.
Friends, I know we are all stewarding, at different capacities, to the demands of our families and friends. But I ask today that you consider standing with me to help this sweet family with shattered hearts, face the unimaginable. If you can give a dollar it can help sweet Micah gain better reach to the needs that will dictate his future. If you cannot give monetarily, give a share, or an encouraging comment, to remind him and his family they are not alone in these difficult moments.
God is working through his story to reach us all. Let’s stand together to give this beautiful family strength, comfort, and peace, in a moment that doesn’t make sense.
