It is with a broken heart we ask for funeral and family support for Micah Brave Deer Washington. Micah, son of Michael and Bettina (Malonson) Washington, died unexpectedly at the young age of 32. His parents were completely blindsided when they were notified on Wednesday night, December 21st. Micah was a member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head of Aquinnah and the grandson of the late Chief Donald Malonson and the nephew of the current Chief Ryan Malonson.

Micah cared very deeply for his tribal family and was passionate about the well-being of the youth and future generations. Micah loved being in his traditional homelands of Aquinnah and he could often be found camping out in the woods of his family homestead. Micah shared a deep brotherhood with many of the young men of the tribe. You could always find him involved in community projects like building the wetu, burning out the canoe, and helping out at pow-wows.

Like too many of our young people, Micah often struggled and was often frustrated by the many challenges tribal communities face. He wanted nothing more than to have a healthy engaged tribal community. He spoke often of standing together, inclusivity, mutual respect and accountability. Micah was taken from this world too early and he will be deeply missed.

Micah's Services will be held Thursday, January 5th at Chapman, Cole & Gleason in Bridgewater (10-12 Viewing and 12-1 Service; Repast: TBA). He will be brought home to Aquinnah on Friday, January 6th (Tribal Community Center: 10-12 Viewing and 12-1 Service Aquinnah Cemetary: 1:30-2:30 Graveside Services There will be a repast following at the Tribal Community Center)

We are asking for support to help pay for these unexpected funeral costs and to help the family during this very difficult time.
