Hi there – This is Kiley Randoll & Paige Mathias. We are participating in MHS Senior Survivor and have chosen to fundraise for the M;caela’s Hope Foundation, while raising mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
On Monday, November 14, 2016, Alma and Brian Brunson lost their sixteen year-old daughter, Micaela, to suicide. Their family started M;caela’s Hope for Mental Health in her memory. The foundation focuses on mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
We have set a goal to raise $2000 for M;caela’s Hope. This gofundme is one of several ways we will be raising money from January 18 through January 28th. The Brunson’s are very dear to both of our families, so in addition to raising money, we want to raise awareness that “it’s ok to not be ok.” Mental health education and suicide prevention are incredibly important, especially to people in our peer age group.
Alma is quoted as saying “Micaela was the kind of person that saw someone that was hurting and was drawn to them. She wanted to talk and help. Micaela was just a bright light that was unfortunately silently struggling. That’s why we do what we do. We don’t want anyone to suffer in silence. Speak out, ask for help.”
If you or someone you know are experiencing a mental health crisis, visit suicidepreventionlifeline.org, call 1-800-273-8255 or text 741741.
Micaela’s Hope is working on building a website. Those interested in finding out more information about the foundation are encouraged to visit the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine’s website.
We appreciate every single dollar donated and we want you to remember “it’s OK to not be OK.”
