Micaela: First in Family to Pursue Law

Hello everyone, my name is Micaela Houghton. I am raising money for my education. I am striving to be the first in my family ever to receive their JD, the journey has been grueling. I am currently and have been paying for school, living on my own, and working 2-3 jobs at a time in order to support my dreams and ambitions. I have finally decided to ask for help after much thought and prayer I am so close to my goal I need roughly $5,000, however I am asking for $3,500. Please read my statement below.

Hi friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

My name is Micaela, and I’m reaching out with an open heart and a big dream—to become an attorney and use the law to uplift those who feel unseen, unheard, and underserved.

Right now, I’m deep in the process of preparing to apply to JD programs for Fall 2026. It's a journey filled with late-night studying, stacks of essays, and hours of research. But along with the hard work comes a very real financial challenge.

To even apply, I’m expected to cover:

Law school application fees for multiple schools ($85+ per school)

LSAC fees and CAS report bundles

LSAT registration and prep materials

Study tools and essentials like a reliable laptop, study software, and practice exams

Altogether, the costs are climbing past $3,000—and that doesn’t even include the emotional toll of trying to chase a dream when money keeps getting in the way.

I’m doing my best to carry this on my own: working, budgeting, applying for fee waivers, and staying consistent with my studies. But the truth is, I can’t do all of it alone. That’s why I’m humbly asking for your support.
