Hello,
My name is Mica Gaxiola-Flynn, a Vashon born and bred native, and I'm a senior at Cornish College of the Arts in the Design Department with a focus on Visual Communication.
Our family re-financed our house to pay the remainder of senior year tuition but there was a surprise shortfall of $2,712. We need to raise the remainder balance in order for me to graduate with my centennial class on May 10th.
Before starting at Cornish I worked with the Backbone Campaign on the movement to stop Glacier Northwest. My favorite project was helping design and orchestrate the human orca during rally on the beach. Protecting Vashons natural habitats is one of my passions and it was insipring to use art to promote conservation.

My senior project for the Cornish Expo 15 has been centered around starting an artist collective that works collaboratively to make art and find new ways to put that art into the world.
My collective believes that printed work, such as zines, can interrupt peoples lives instead of being scrolled past on computer screens.
The zines will showcase our designs, beliefs and promote inspiration. This project includes aspects of self publishing, the importance of artist collaboration and the practice of zine trading.
I have been editing and curating my own zine for a year now and our 5th issue is the center piece of my senior project. .
You can read our past 4 issues here.
& follow for updates here on facebook.
My senior project is about turning negatives into positives.
Making things even when the odds are against you.
This is the video project I'm working on for the senior design show that shows what our collective stands for.
My time at Cornish has changed how I look at the world. It has open a world of possibilities in a field that I love & I want to graduate so I can continue pursing a career in design.
Here is some of the work I've produced at Cornish that I am most proud of:

The highlight of fall semester was my poster design winning Art Chantrys Artist Choice award at the Cornish Poster Show. (top left)

You can see more of my cornish design work here.
Thank you everyone who has supported me to get to this far, and everyone who can help me finish my degree!
