My name is Rebecca, and for the past week I've been marching with BLM in NYC.
From what I've seen on the ground and discussed with leaders, organizers are dealing with fried vocal cords due to lack of quality megaphones. These megaphones are vital to the protests not only because it allows crowds to hear important information such as police curfew updates and directional instructions, but at a very base level because they amplify their voices.
I am currently connecting with Warriors in the Garden and Freedom March NYC, leaders of the largest marches happening in Manhattan, to assist in distributing to the correct people on the ground.
They are having the wonderful problem that so many thousands of New Yorkers are joining their marches and raising their voices that leaders are having trouble competing with the noise.
Your money will go towards top of the line megaphones from Midtown Manhattan. Receipts from each supply pickup will be posted for accountability along with photos of distribution.
Our goal is to get better equipment to organizers. These megaphones cost $120 each, not including batteries, so please donate! In addition to upgrading equipment, existing equipment is going to run out of juice soon - most megaphones last approx. 40 hours on batteries (or 5-6 days of marches!), and I want to make sure no one is paying for expensive Type C replacement batteries out of pocket.
Donations made have included delivery, so that all organizers need to do is request equipment and name a location. Volunteers with cars and I then coordinate.

Excess funds will be documented and donated to Warriors in the Garden and Freedom March NYC - originally it was going to be donated to NYC Bail Fund, but after discussing with organizers it's clear the money will be better used directly for on-the-ground efforts. I am also working on reaching out to protest leaders in LA and Boston to see if they are also in need of equipment donation.
