If you know me, or my mom, you know this is out of our character. My sister is fighting in ICU and my mom, Heather, has been by her side the whole time. My mom is an RN and has taken a step back from work to help keep my sister calm and stable. I know times are tough for everyone, so if you cannot afford to help out financially prayers are just as important. A little back story below.
On August 22nd, Mia was admitted to Lafayette general for an infection in both her blood stream and her heart. She underwent a routine cath lab procedure to clean out the vegetation located on one of her valves to prepare for a future valve replacement surgery. Following the procedure, Mia had a difficult time trying to come off of the ventilator along with her blood pressure staying in the not so ideal range. She remained on the ventilator overnight with plan to be reassessed in the morning. On Saturday morning, her condition took a hard turn for the worse. Her oxygen levels with the ventilator on full capacity were only in the 70s and she had no urine output. A hole was now in her valve, she could not oxygenate. Her condition was now dire, her visitor policy upgraded to 4 instead of 2. We were told to say our goodbyes. Death was imminent.
As a one last intervention with a side of Hail Mary, she was given nitric oxide gas through her ventilator.... it worked. Her oxygen climbed. By the grace of God, she stabilized. Over the next few days, she was slowly weaned off sedation and the ventilator. The first thing she asked for was a Dr Pepper.
Although the worst has passed, Mia still has a long road to recovery. Her current ICU admission is only the beginning. Fighting death that hard and winning is not cheap. Neither is her victory parade. If you can, please donate to help my mom stay by her side. Anything is immensely appreciated.
