Hi everyone,
My name is Mia Rose Cachero. A little about me: I was born and raised in Hawaii. I was raised by my mom and my grandparents. I maintain straight A’s in school, I’m in advanced math, the president of the robotics team, I dance in four genres of dance on a competitive dance team and recently joined the cheer team.
I wouldn’t be able to enjoy and participate in all of these things if it weren’t for my mom and my grandparents who make sure that I get all these experiences by working hard to provide for me.
I’m starting this gofundme account as a way to help them and myself, as I have been given an amazing opportunity.
I’m in my last year of middle school. In the past years, the 8th graders have been given the opportunity to attend the Annual 8th grade East Coast trip and with a new principal, this opportunity has been brought back for us.
Not all students are eligible to go, there is a requirement to have good grades/academic standing, good school attendance, good behavior and citizenship, and must attend after school enrichment classes to prepare for the trip. I was chosen out of many students to go on this trip. The new rules aren't
I wrote an essay to go with my application to be chosen which I want to share as to why this trip is important to me,
“History has always fascinated me, and the ability to stand in the very places where history was made would be an eye opening experience for me. To begin with, I would very much enjoy attending this trip as I am a strong believer in equality and equal rights, and being able to go to places such as The Slave Memorial, the place where the Gettysburg Address happened and Lincoln Memorial would give me great opportunities to learn more about the places civil rights began. These places are not just monuments, but are the places that have shaped our nation. Lincoln Memorial in this case would be a great place to go to as events such as Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, an executive order which freed slaves, was signed here back in 1863. Also, Martin Luther King Jr. had his view changing I Have a Dream speech which spoke about his wishes for equality at the very same place. My next reason is because this trip will give me the chance to spend time with people I’ve really grown and spent the last few years with before high school changes everyone’s path. If I were to be selected for this trip, it’ll feel less like school and more like an adventure as I’m learning things that fascinate me while spending time with the people I’ve spent my middle school years with. In conclusion, to me this trip is more than just an escape from school, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to connect with the past, deepen my understanding of the fight for equal rights, and create long lasting memories with classmates before we all head down our own paths in life. Going to these historic buildings would not only increase my fascination for history but also encourage me to carry forward the values of justice and unity that we will learn about. I would be beyond grateful to be selected for this experience.”
By supporting me in reaching my goals for this trip, you’ll be helping to make a important memorable life event happen for me contributing to an all-inclusive one week, filled with different activities traveling on the East Coast, with opportunities to connect with my peers, participate in excursions, sightseeing, museums, and more that will help me gain educational growth.
Thank you for taking the time to read and for supporting me in my last year as a middle schooler :)
