Hi, My name is Mia Ordonez and I’m about to embark on a new life-changing journey. I believe that my years of High school made me grow into an independent woman and I have become more responsible. NOW! I'm ready to do more. Not for myself but for others.

 

I was recently selected by my school to participate on a 10 day mission trip to Piura Peru with Commissioned by Christ and fellow schoolmates. God willing, the mission will be this summer from August 4-13, 2022.

 

Why am I asking for support?

The school has encouraged me to live the experience to the fullest. I want to raise the funds by myself. I want to learn how to help people on my own without my parents' financial support. I want to spend my free time serving those in need.

 

“And if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.” (Isaiah 58:10)

 

This is a great opportunity to take part in service as we show God’s people the love they are meant to encounter every day. Through this mission trip, I hope to grow closer to Jesus Christ as I serve those longing for love and help them meet their spiritual and material needs.

 

Why Piura, Peru? (The Mission )

 

 

We will be helping with a variety of projects for some of the poorest people in Piura. Some of the villages lack basic necessities of life. Or at least life as we know it. Many of these people lack the necessities/blessings we take for granted each day, such as electricity, drinking water, and bathrooms in our homes.

 

As a missionary, we will also be helping in many social service projects that the Parish has in place to improve the standard of living of the community. We will help with the orphanages and schools that the parish supports, build chapels and houses from bamboo, and get to know the life of the parish. We will also be introducing the Traditional Latin Mass to the town of Piura.

 

An experience like this will strengthen my confidence and independence which I will need when I go off to

college and out into the world as an adult.

 

Who am I?

I’m a Junior at Bishop O'Connell High School, I’m a member of the Women's Executive Club, Hispanic

Heritage Club. I have been recently inducted in

 

I’m really interested in the Forensic field (Psychological and Science). Over the summer, I will be attending Georgetown University in an early college program and will be studying Government, Forensic Science, and Psychology/Neuroscience, classes.

 

I have volunteered my time helping Second Story in Culmore. In the community, we help the youth who receive less support from home due to family circumstances. We do this to provide them a safe place, with access to computers and food as an after-school program. For them to have a bright future with more opportunities.

 

Why do you need $3000, Why so much?

Your contributions will be truly appreciated and used to cover airfare, lodging, and transportation while in Peru, food, and most importantly the project fee. The plane ticket itself is usually one-third of the project fee.

This mission trip will not only be a blessing to me, but more importantly a blessing to those I will serve. I am kindly asking for your generous support and sponsorship for my participation as a missionary to Peru by contributing an amount of your choice.
