Making Magic for Mia

Donation protected

Mia is an amazing 11 year old girl. She likes the things that most 11 year old girls like: spending time with friends and family, animals (especially horses) and nature. She likes music, singing, dancing; and quieter things like reading, drawing and painting. She loves watching Disney films like Frozen and Brave.

Mia is funny, she is generous and brings happiness to those around her. She is very sociable and loves being around people. She is adventurous and she has a wonderful cheeky sense of humour.

But Mia has Rett Syndrome . For her, this profound disability means all these things she likes are impossible to do without assistance. Mia cannot walk, or talk, and all those things we take for granted that we can do: change the channel on the TV, put on music, pick up a book and read it, tell someone we are thirsty - she can't do those things at the moment.

With an Eye Gaze communication system she can.

When you get to know Mia you can see that there is so much more going on inside that she can't express at the moment. Current research of Rett shows that a lot of people with this rare random genetic condition experience being "locked in" - they have so much more going on inside that they can't, due to the way the condition works, express or let out. This must be intensely frustrating, yet Mia bears this with grace. People are always commenting on her happy smile and her bright eyes.

We imagine how much more confident and independent she would be if she were able to do some of these things herself.

And with your help, she can.

Mia has recently been assessed for Eye Gaze technology (see above picture and article) and they were amazed at how quickly she picked it up. At first she learns to play games with it - this may not sound like a lot, but these are the first games that she will have ever been able to play without someone assisting her. That must be so fabulous for her, so freeing. And that's just the start of it.

All those involved with Mia: speech therapists, teachers, occupational therapists (OTs) fully support this kind of technology for Mia and have advised on the exact things that would be good for Mia.

The great thing is that after getting the equipment, more and more "packages" can be added. So even a little donation will go a long way.

The benefits to Mia will be life changing.

By supporting, you are making life better for Mia. You are making magic for Mia.

Help her live a better life today.

Thank you for your time and support.
