Mia’s recovery from Brain decompression surgery

Hello everyone , Our names are Samantha and Cameron we are the Parents of Mia leigh who is having a brain decompression surgery May 20th♥️

After two years of advocating for our daughter with all her medical issues, delays, social and behavioral difficulties & seeing a whole team of different specialists through Boston Children’s Hospital, Mia had a sedated brain scan & we were thrown into a whirl wind when we found out that our daughter Has Chiari brain malformation type 1.

Chiari brain malformation means that part of the brain, the cerebellum (or more specifically the cerebellar tonsils), descends out of the skull forcing the brain into the the spinal area, resulting in the compression of parts of the brain and spinal cord which disrupts the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid (the clear fluid which protects the brain and spinal cord). This causes excruciating headaches and neck pain that is made worse by coughing, laughing, or sneezing , swallowing issues , irritability ,behavioral changes ,motor delays and more.

Over the last two weeks since finding out we have met with the neurosurgeon. We had another sedated scan for her spine and the neurosurgery team informed us that Mia’s case is moderately severe, and because she is symptomatic she will need to have a brain decompression surgery to relieve the pressure on her brain and symptoms that this is causing daily for mia. The surgery is scheduled for the 20th of this month ! We are hoping this will be a life changing surgery for our little girl.

This has all happened so quickly , and all of this information has been a lot to process and digest properly for us and for our other two young daughters ! As reality sets in so does the difficult and delicate nature of the road to recovery Mia is facing. Although Cameron has been working multiple jobs to support our family We have run into unforeseen financial expenses.

Funds raised from this page will go towards helping to pay for medical expenses, living expenses, & day to day essentials that Mia will need for her recovery. Since the surgery will require Cameron to be off of work for a period of time and both parents to be home through the course of the surgery and recovery, along with all of the hospital visits & expenses that come with this sort of procedure. Thank you for taking the time to read this far ! If your heart leads you to help us out, it would be so greatly appreciated. We are forever grateful for any bit of help in our time of need!
