Mia Hamant's Fight — One of One

With love and determination, we are coming together to support our incredible friend, Mia Hamant, as she begins the fight of her life. Mia has been diagnosed with Stage 4 SMARCB1-deficient kidney cancer — a very rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer caused by the loss of a specific gene (SMARCB1) that normally helps regulate critical cell functions. Without this gene, the cancer grows rapidly and can spread throughout the body.

Mia’s condition is so rare that many medical facilities may only see a single case per year.

Mia has always been one of one — known for her grit, fearless spirit, competitive fire, and the ability to lift everyone around her. She leads with heart, toughness, and an authenticity that inspires all who know her. She has never backed down from a challenge, and she won’t now.

About Mia

Mia is a junior goalkeeper for the University of Washington women's soccer team. Known for her exceptional skills, unwavering dedication, and uplifting spirit as a teammate, she played a pivotal role in helping Washington become the NCAA Statistical Champion in save percentage during the 2024 season. Mia also led the team in shutouts and was instrumental in winning two penalty kick shootouts — helping the Huskies advance and ultimately reach the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.

Her journey began in Corte Madera, California, where she played for Marin FC 04 Blue ECNL, leading her team to multiple championships. At Redwood High School, Mia was a standout athlete, earning All-League First Team honors, being named Defensive Player of the Year twice, and earning the respect of teammates and coaches alike for her leadership and heart both on and off the field.

How You Can Help
