Hi everyone. My name is Lauren Poell (Fidler). I'm Mia's aunt and sister of Hannah Fidler, who recently married Phi Nguyen. Our sister, Emily Jungman, Phi's sister, Anh Nguyen and I are raising funds to help our sister and brother navigate the loss of Mia and ultimately the worst time in their lives. Here is a little backstory:

On Wednesday, September 21st, 2022, Mia was seen in the emergency room with a severe headache, neck pain and vomiting. With Mia's history of neonatal brain issues (Hydrocephalus), Hannah and our dad demanded an MRI of her head. On the way to the MRI, Mia had an arrest episode and aspirated, resulting in her being intubated. Seconds before this, Mia looked at a very emotional Hannah and told her that everything was going to be okay. Those were her last words.

Mia was transferred to the PICU where our family was confronted by a neurosurgeon. Mia's brain was not draining fluid properly and the ICP (intracranial pressure) level in her brain was approximately three times what it should be. They took Mia into emergency surgery to place an external shunt to help drain spinal fluid and relieve the pressure. Unfortunately, they were too late. The pressure was too high in her brain that it collapsed her brainstem and spinal cord, resulting in permanent brain damage. Damage that is irreversible.

Mia was flown to Iowa City Wednesday night. Over several days, countless doctors and nurses saw Mia and observed her. Tests were done on Mia which confirmed no brain activity or response.

Although we are shattered to lose Mia, Hannah and Phi have made the generous decision to donate her organs. Mia's light will live on and she can provide help to at least 9 other families.

Mia had just turned 12 years old on August 2nd. Losing a child is not something any family is ever prepared for. This is what we are raising for. For Mia's funeral, the unexpected medical expenses, reimbursement for gas and hotels in Iowa City. If you are able and willing, please donate what you can so that these expenses are one less thing for Hannah and Phi to worry about. Losing their child will undoubtedly be the hardest thing they will have to go through.

If you know Mia, you know that she loves with her whole heart and does not know a stranger. She has a smile that will light up a room. Please help us show Mia how loved she is.
