I am starting this GoFundMe because I am an American and our healthcare solution is apparently to pay out the ass for health insurance and then still pay out the ass when we need to use it for any kind of actual health care. I chose the photo for this GoFundMe based on how I feel the health care system is treating all of us americans.
My monthly premium with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of NC is $600 for myself and my daughter. My experience is that this doesn't really do much until I spend another $7000 a year at the doctors and hospitals then they will pick up some of the rest.
I have been fortunate to mostly have good health so I have never had to experience how awful this all is first hand until recently. End of last year I thought I was having a stroke or heart attack, spent several hours in the ER and it ended up costing me $9000 out of pocket in the end. I was lucky then to have been in the right place at the right time with the silly gamestop stock and my earnings covered that cost. Since that all happened right before 2021 that didn't go into this years out of pocket costs.
For the last 6 week I have been in the most awful pain in my abdomen area and after weeks of testing they have decided they want to cut me. This is my first surgery so I am real excited about it. I got a call today from the surgeon's office to let me know what to expect tomorrow and they said that they have contacted my insurance and the total cost of the surgery will be $3200 and insurance will cover $200 of that. They said I need to have payment ready before they begin the procedure. I have already spent $550 in copays in the last 5 weeks going from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what is wrong.
I never thought I would go this route to try to help cover the cost of medical procedures, gofundme being america's medical plan has become such a meme on the internet and it is sad that this is the true state of things. If you can help out that would be cool, if not I am sure I will figure it out and find some other stupid way to make a fool of myself on twitch for money.
