Help Eric beat cancer

Thank you for stopping by this page.
My good friend Eric Van Lente has been fighting stage four cancer since October, 2024. Eric is a lovely, kind and giving person, who really needs our help now.
What started as an uncomfortable feeling around the stomach and a lingering cough, turned out to be a serious developing condition. On the 1st of October, Eric received the news that he had colon cancer. Upon further testing, his doctors confirmed that the cancer had spread to the liver and lungs. Since then, Eric has completed his first series of chemotherapy treatments.
Now about Eric. From the first day I met Eric, the one thing that struck me was his beautiful honesty and his genuine interest in listening to what people had to say. I also found him to be a truly open, interesting, and non-judgemental person which made him such a lovely person to talk with. Eric is one of those rare people who completely accepts others for who they are. Perhaps this is due to his interest in spirituality and immense curiosity about life. He is always present when interacting with people, he’s invaluable as a friend, and always willing to give kindness and affection.
The aim of this fundraising page is to provide Eric with some financial support to pay for treatment-related expenses that are not covered by the state, such as dietary supplements, complementary medications, consultancy fees, transport, and specialised personal care items. Eric also has no paid work currently and he needs funds for living expenses such as rent.
According to the Irish Cancer Society, people undergoing cancer treatment experience significant increase in expenses ; some are expected (e.g., nurse visits), some are unexpected (e.g., increased electricity bills due to increased heating needs). Eric’s diagnosis has come with significant financial burdens, and has postponed important life goals. Additionally, he is providing care to his parents at this time.
If you have the means, please consider making a donation to help Eric during this difficult time. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference (even if it is the equivalent of paying for a round of beers for friends).
If you’re unable to make a financial donation, please consider sharing this message with your friends and family. Your support means the world to Eric and his loved ones.
Thank you for your generosity and compassion.
Santi
A note from Eric:
Thank you so much for considering supporting me in my cancer journey. So far, I have been incredibly fortunate and this journey has been surprisingly positive, in many ways.
What has really made this a very positive experience for me has been the support I have received from others. Within hours of announcing my diagnosis, numerous friends and acquaintances showed up and offered me emotional and practical support. Not only did I receive profound kindness, I also received practical advice to help me change my diet, guide me in which supplements to take, and to pursue a complimentary medicine approach in addition to chemotherapy. These complementary therapies include medicines that serve to “starve” the cancer and improve general health and immunity. This amounts to approximately €650+ a month, which is currently outside of my government illness benefit allowance.
In addition, my oncologist has advised me to take a set of cutting-edge genetic tests to allow a tailored prescription of medications and supplements for my specific cancer and body type. Unfortunately, this investigation (datar/exacta) currently costs around £4,500 (approx. €5,400). My aim now is to collect a) enough for the datar/exact investigation (€5,400), and b) enough for one and half years of supplements = €650 * 18 months = €11,700, a total which comes to €5,400 + €11,700 = €17,100
Again, I do not have the money to pay for this and would very much appreciate any contribution you can make.
The combined approach I’ve adopted seems to be working. Recent tests showed a reduction of 50% across cancer measures; a result which my oncologist called “spectacular.” I’d like to bring my cancer levels down more, and maybe even beat it completely. Your help would be pivotal in pursuing these goals.
Thank you so much for your support and kindness. Please forward this to others who you believe might be interested in supporting me.
