Adam Udell, nonverbal autism, a dental emergency
Donation protected
Adam has nonverbal autism and is in a dental emergency right now, he is in alot of pain and discomfort, so much that he is missing school and activities and having very aggressive behavior towards himself and me. Adam lost his Delta dental insurance thru Medicaid/SSI when he turned 21 in July and his current dentist (who took years to find) does not take straight Medicaid. Adam needs to be sedated in a hospital setting to have dental work done. It is impossible to find a dentist who takes Medicaid and sedates in West Michigan. I have been trying for the last 4 months to find him help, with no success. I have appealed insurance companies, government agencies and the such to no avail. We have been to the emergency room twice with no help. Adam is on tramadol and Tylenol and extra Risperdal which is giving him stomach problems now. I also found out that funding from the state of Michigan for such situations to help the special needs community with dental issues has been cut starting this year and for the next four years! I am a single parent trying to do this on my own and it is absolutely heartbreaking to see him go through this. He looks at me with such helplessness and cries, I sit and cry with him, I'm trying my best to find him help. I bought him a Delta dental policy which is what his current dentist takes, but there is a 6 MONTH WAITING PERIOD to get the services he needs ( 4 missing fillings, and whatever else needs to be done) ONLY MICHIGAN, OHIO AND INDIANA HAVE THIS WAITING PERIOD! The only way Adam can get his dental issue taken care of now is to pay his current dentist out of pocket, the hospital part is already taken care of through Medicaid. So Im reaching out for Adam, who cannot speak for himself. He normally is such a sweet person who likes to swing, bounce, listen to music and help around the house, to watch him suffer this way is a nightmare as his mom. Please help Adam. Xoxo
