Surgery for George

When we brought George home two plus years ago we had no idea the roller coaster we were about to get on. He was, and still is, the sweetest, most loving soul you could imagine. A month into his time with us he became incredibly sick. After weeks in and out of the emergency vet we found out that George had a rare genetic condition called a liver shunt.

It was a one in a million stroke of bad luck. The short of it is that his blood does not go through his liver properly. As a result, his own food poisons him. He cannot take worm or tick medication. We vaccinate him at great risk.

There are ways to manage this, but they are costly and time consuming. He currently requires medication a minimum of six times a day, a very specific diet, and constant monitoring of his behavior to determine if more intervention is needed that day.

We may finally have him stable enough to brave the surgery which could correct this. It is invasive and risky. But if successful it would double his lifespan and remove the risk of additional health complications such as seizures and kidney disease. It would give Jon and I a chance to live just a little bit more normally again.

If you are in a position to help us make that happen we would be forever grateful.

Part of what is included in the amount we are raising is a £1,500 contingency fund recommended by the vet in case there are post op complications that require additional interventions. Should we achieve this amount but not need it my plan would be to pass it forward to another member of the support group we are in for George's condition.
