Dear friends,

I’m writing to you with a heart full of emotion, humility, and hope.

This week, my son Sebastián is completing his first month at a healing center in the mountains of Chiapas, Mexico. After years of pain, hospitalizations, and not knowing what else to do, we are finally beginning to see signs of light at this sacred place, Yerba Buena.

I’m so deeply GRATEFUL we found a space where Sebastián can rest and begin to heal from everything he’s endured over the past few years. Surrounded by nature and a compassionate team, he’s beginning to feel safe again. And that alone… means everything.

He’s sleeping through the night for the first time in years. He’s playing soccer, practicing flips, walking barefoot, and making new friends. We’re staying present, sharing slow meals, breathing deeply, and watching his nervous system slowly find rest after such a long, painful fight.

And most incredibly, the medical team has begun to gently reduce his psychiatric medications, and he’s responding beautifully.

We are watching him come back to life gently, slowly, with so much love.

What Led Us Here

Our journey hasn’t been easy.

In 2022, everything changed when Sebastián had his first episode of psychosis. What followed were multiple hospitalizations, misdiagnoses, and months of fear and uncertainty.

We tried everything we could to care for him at home with love, patience, and dedication but his condition worsened.

I closed my community project to become his full-time caregiver. We were separated from our other children for long stretches, trying desperately to find something that worked. His dad and I have given everything emotionally, physically, and financially.

We may not be a traditional family anymore, but we are united in this journey, standing by our son with full hearts. These past few weeks, his dad has been at the healing center with him, offering strength, care, and presence while I’ve been with Valentina and Rafael, making sure they also feel seen, loved and supported.

Next week, I’ll return to Chiapas to continue walking beside Sebastián for the next part of his journey. We are doing our best to balance the needs of all three of our children, while making sure Sebastián feels supported every step of the way.

Three years ago, we launched our first GoFundMe when Sebastián was first hospitalized. We were overwhelmed and just trying to find help.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised enough to cover several months of medical expenses, hospital stays, psychiatric evaluations, medications, and therapies.

We want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts. That support carried us through one of the darkest periods of our lives, and we’ve never forgotten it.

Why We’re Starting a New GoFundMe

When we relaunched the fundraiser this year, we reused the original GoFundMe page, thinking it was a natural continuation of our journey.

But we now realize it may have caused confusion about what’s already been donated and what is still needed.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion this may have caused. To be more transparent, we’ve created this new GoFundMe page, dedicated solely to this current chapter, the chapter where hope is beginning to return.

How You Can Help

The healing center costs $3,500/month, and Sebastián will likely need at least five more months of care to continue his recovery.

We’re hoping to raise $24,000 to cover his full treatment and give him a real chance to heal. This includes his stay at the center, meals, therapies, and having one of us by his side so that he can continue to feel supported and safe.

We’re taking every step we can to support Sebastián with our time, our energy, our resources, and our unconditional love. We’ve carried this alone and in silence for as long as we could.
