Lelia's Medical CGM Fund

Our daughter Lelia was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a day after her 8th birthday (January 2013). Living with T1D has been a daily struggle with managing blood sugars, counting carbs, finger pokes, and midnight blood tests. We read an article soon after diagnosis talking about the insulin that we now have to put into her body..."The same insulin that is required to keep the individual alive is the same insulin that can take the life from them."
Managing her daily blood glucose levels requires about 10 or more finger pokes a day, making the corrections with her insulin pump, and hoping & praying that what we've done is best. Our experience with the management of a T1D is at the greatest "a best guess scenario." We wake up twice a night to check blood sugar levels, sometimes more depending on if she's high or low.
Lelia's greatest fear (and our's too) is going too low at night and not waking up. With a CGM, we are alerted 24/7 where her blood sugar levels are, just at the click of a button. We can see trends and head off a high with insulin or a low with glucose. We've experienced borrowing a CGM from our diabetes clinic for the past week and this is a great device that has brought a piece of mind to us and has allowed us to sleep at night. Lelia carries the CGM with her and she too can monitor her blood sugar numbers.
The cost we are asking for will cover the cost of the CGM receiver, transmitter, and cover the cost of the monthly sensors for a year. The CGM would bring a peace over our family and we hope that you'd be willing to help support us for Lelia.
Here is a video link that we recently posted entitled, "T1D, A Day In The Life" of Lelia on YouTube. Lelia is a vibrant girl, full of passion, a love for life, who is not willing to allow T1D to control who she is.
