Dear friends, family, and supporters,
(UPDATE from January 7, 2016)
I hope that everyone had a great holiday season.
Yesterday I had my appointment for the PET scan, the test that will detect if all the cancer is gone. We got on the freeway but it was raining so hard that the freeways were flooded, so we had to turn around and reschedule. We hate driving in the rain because years ago, we had a horrible accident on the freeway because of the rain. So I decided to wait and not take a chance. Too bad; I wanted to know if the chemo worked. I know it did but I just want to know officially. So now my new appointment is next Thursday, January 14th. I'll update everyone of the results.
Slowly I am feeling better. The last chemo had been harder than all the other ones, with nausea, bone pain, and sores on my tongue. Plus the taste in my mouth was so awful, it was hard even to drink water. But all of that is slowly going away. It's frustrating because I want to get back to work with my art, and make money, but this will take some time. Some days I still feel real weak, but I also have good days too. The good thing is that I know this will pass, and that makes me happy.
it also also makes me happy that I have some new projects in the near future.
Thank you to everyone for your love and support, and your generosity in this time of need.
I am also offering a 16 x 20 signed and framed print for a donation of $100.
For a donation of $250, you will receive a 22 x 28 signed and numbered Limited Edition giclee´.
I will give a new update when I get my PET scan result.
Take care, everyone.
HECTOR

Our dear friend, the great artist Hector Silva, has provided the world with his gift of art that enriches our lives with the beautiful images of Mexican artists and the loving embraces of Latino Queer men. He explores themes of cultural identity as Latinos and Queers are often erased from the social portrait. Hector has stated that: “If no one’s trying to censor you, then you’re probably not doing anything that important.”
Hector was recently diagnosed with cancer, and has bravely undergone intensive medical treatment. We ask that as a community we unite in support of Hector’s recovery by donating to a GoFundMe campaign to pay for medical expenses. and to help him get back on his feet, We all know how devastating this disease can be physically and financially, Please donate any amount as all contributions are appreciated. Hector has given us a lifetime of love and beauty through his art, and our donations will help him to continue to battle this beast and return to creating art for us all.
As many of us know, Hector is well known for his generosity, giving and supporting many organizations and causes in his many communities since the beginning of his career. with his art. He has contributed to the farmworkers, the arts, American lung association, american heart association, the Latino legal network, housing and eviction assistance to name a few, We think that this time it is our opportunity to show him our support and appreciation.
"I cannot begin to recount here how many times I have heard people-in galleries and classrooms, at academic conferences and film festivals-remark that Hector Silva's work is not only brilliant and groundbreaking but also life changing. Indeed, his persistent need to conjoin Latino and queer concerns has played a major role in breaking silences around race and sexuality while motivating others to do the same in their respective capacities. Furthermore, Silva's work is steadfast in its dedication to pedagogical and social justice imperatives. To my mind, Silva is the embodiment of the public intellectual. The movement and sway of his artistic production further reflects this, signaling the utmost necessity to utilize the expressive arts for the dual purpose of building community and rousing an impassioned need and respect for the arts."
