MG's Mercer on Mission to Vietnam

Donation protected
Hey everyone!

My goal is to travel to Vietnam in the Summer of 2019. I will be traveling there for a Mercer on Mission trip to help provide and fit low-cost prosthetic limbs to amputees who have lost their limbs due to various reasons including unexploded weapons leftover from the Vietnam War. Medical care comes at no cost to the patients!

Though little to no news reaches us in our daily lives, hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese citizens have lost their limbs and lives due to leftover land mines from the war. The loss of the ability to walk means that these people have no way to make money for their families, forcing them into poverty.

Thanks to the work of the Mercer Biomedical Engineering department and others, restoring the ability to walk can be simple with the easily customizable prosthetic limb socket. A group of Mercer students makes this trip annually to fit hundreds of patients with these low-cost prosthetics during their three weeks in Vietnam.

This mission is something I am passionate about as I work towards a major in Biomedical Engineering and most definitely steered me to be interested in the field in the first place. Any donations, prayers, or words of advice helps!
