Hi my names James and I live in Derby. I am nine years old and love racing on my go kart. A month ago I was out racing, having fun with my friends and then I fell really ill.
On Tuesday 15th March I was diagnosed with a brain tumour and referred to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham where I would be treated. I was in hospital for a week having lots of x-rays and medicine and then on Tuesday 22nd March I had an operation. This operation was to remove the tumour they found in my brain. The surgery was very successful and they managed to remove all of the tumour, I was in surgery for 6 and a half hours!!
My results then came back from my operation and I was later diagnosed on Friday 1st April with Ependymoma grade 2, which is a type of cancer within the brain. They told me and my mummy that the next stage of treatment would be for us to go over to Jacksonville in Florida for Proton Beam Therapy but first I had to have a lumba puncture. They informed my mummy that I would be in Florida for ten weeks having this treatment. On that Friday I finally came home after spending most of my time in hospital.
On Wednesday 6th April I had my first lumba puncture and was out the same day. The results came back good and the doctor rang my mummy the day before her appoinment to tell her the good news and that we will be flying out to Jacksonville in the next week or so. Then at my mummy's appointment at the hospital the doctor said they wanted to check something extra, more thoroughly, so I had my second lumba puncture on Friday 15th April.
Me and my mummy will be flying out in the next couple of days or so, just awaiting the big go ahead. Very luckily the NHS are funding mine and my mummy's flights and acccomodation.
We are looking at raising a fund for mine and my mummy's living in Jacksonville but so my two big sisters can come and see me through my ten weeks of staying there. This money will help go towards flights, accomodation and living over there.
I am really going to miss my two big sisters, I have never been away from them for so long!! It would mean a lot to me for them to come over and see me.
I will be really greatful if we manage to reach our target by the start of June, so they can see me half way through my treatment. I hope to get funds for everything by this donation website plus all the fundraising events that will be held. I will post on her when they are and more information about this.
I really hope everybody can help me, so I can be back home all better, back to my go-karting and spending lots of time with all of my family.
So please everybody help me and my mummy do this and beat this as a family!!
