On Monday, April 13th around 3:00 PM, our lives changed in an instant.

My partner Ryan was involved in a serious motorcycle accident when another driver made a left-hand turn directly in front of him while he was driving in his lane. He was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital Trauma Centre, and the other driver has since been charged.

The impact left Ryan with significant injuries. He suffered both femurs broken, among other more minor injuries, and underwent an extensive 7-hour emergency surgery. He is now facing a long and difficult recovery.

Ryan is the main income earner for our family. As a self-employed business owner, he does not have access to traditional benefits or paid medical leave, which makes this situation even more challenging.

While I do work, my income alone is not enough to cover our household expenses, and with Ryan unable to work, our family’s income will be significantly reduced, and we will struggle to keep up with our financial obligations.

Although we are in Ontario and grateful for access to healthcare, there will still be significant costs related to rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and necessary assistive devices during Ryan’s recovery.

We are asking for help to support our family during this time, so that Ryan can focus fully on healing and getting better without the added stress of worrying about how his family is managing financially.

Funds raised will go toward:

-Rent and essential household bills

-Groceries and daily living expenses

-Rehabilitation and physiotherapy

-Assistive equipment and mobility supports

-Continuing to support our children during his recovery

While this has been devastating, we are so thankful that Ryan is still here with us.

He is strong, and we know he will fight through this, but the road ahead will be long. Asking for help isn't easy for us, but we know we cannot do it alone.
