****Update****
Hello, a lot has happened since last June, when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma. I have gone through countless tests, two surgeries, 4 biopsies, radiation, and luckily only one targeted medication so far. The medicine I am on now is usually only successful for about 6 months and I have been on it for 9 months.
Right now, my doctors can offer me treatment like this that will extend my time by months and then when that stops working they will move me on to another treatment that can possibly do the same. Each treatment comes with its own troubling side effects and eventually we will run out of options.
This is not good enough and I have been in pursuit of anything else that can give me a better chance. I have changed my lifestyle and diet and I believe that is why I am doing so well right now. Still, I know things could go wrong quickly and I need to find something better.
I found another treatment that has a very high success rate. Currently, it is in clinical trials but unfortunately the trials are for other types of cancers. It will take several years to get approved and then they will only be approved for those specific types of cancers even though the researchers believe that the type of cancer has nothing to do with the efficacy of the treatment.
The doctors running these trials feel very passionate about this research and ever since their discovery nearly 20 years ago they have been trying to move things forward. However, this is a very slow process and they realized that they needed to find a way to get this treatment to the people who need it most. So, they have opened a clinic where they can do just that.
The treatment is dendritic cell therapy and to put it simply, it uses my own tumor and dendritic cells to teach my killer T cells to attack the cancer. These scientists have discovered a unique way to do this that is different from the way anyone else is doing it, and their success has led to being fast-tracked by the FDA.
I feel very compelled to this treatment. It’s like I have been led to it. There is a much longer story behind how I found it, and I know it is what I am supposed to do.
I have been looking into this for months now and I have had others who are more qualified medically check it out as well. Even my oncologist approves. It is real.
They only accept 20-30% of the people who apply for treatment because you have to meet certain criteria, so they know you are a good candidate, and they can actually help you.
I applied, and I got in!
I found a charity founded by a former patient who is so passionate about this treatment that he started a foundation to help people pay for it. I wrote him a letter and now he is going to help me pay for it! With some help from my parents for the remainder, we are able to pay for the treatment.
That brings me to right now. All we have to do to make this happen is raise enough money to travel and stay there while I receive treatment. I have to travel back and forth a few times so this could cost about $10,000.
That is what we need right now. I am supposed to start there in mid-April so we don’t have much time.
If you can help at all we would be so incredibly grateful. Every little bit will help.
This treatment is the chance I need to get my life back, to watch my children grow, grow old with my husband, and dedicate my life to finding ways to help everyone who has to go through this terrible disease.
If you would like to connect with me, please reach out to my sister, the organizer, and she will connect us.
Thank you so much for reading.
Tammy(Bushweiler) Wattles has been with her husband, Stuart J Wattles, since high school, soulmates who built a beautiful life together and became proud parents to three young children who are the center of her world. She’s not just a devoted wife and loving mother; she’s the heartbeat of her family. Now, Tammy is facing the unimaginable. She has been diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, but she is determined to fight with everything she has. There are new treatments being developed every day, and if she can just hold on long enough, there is hope for something that could give her more time with her children. That’s what she wants more than anything: to be there for her kids and to see them grow up. But the cost of treatment is overwhelming, and the one thing this family cannot bear is the idea that money could stand in the way of Tammy getting the care that might save her life. Stuart and the kids need her. Her children need their mom. Please help give Tammy the fighting chance she so desperately deserves.
All funds will go directly to Tammy and her family.
***** this is the real fundraiser for Tammy. Any others are fake. Thank you so much! *****
