Love for Gavin!

Hello, this is Alyssa Williams, I am writing on behalf of a very special family, and their little boy who is near and dear to my heart... Gavin Jerzak. The Jerzak family needs our community support more than ever, as they start a VERY difficult journey to save Gavin's life. Gavin was born with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia & had a liver transplant at 17 months old. Gavin is now 7 years old and is experiencing life-threatening complications throughout multiple systems in his body. Due to many years of anti-rejection medications post-transplant, his immune system has become very weak. Making it difficult for him to fight off illness or disease of any kind. He has developed a rare kidney disease called BK Virus, which is quickly killing his kidneys. Despite a valiant effort from some of the best Doctors in the world, Gavin's body can not sustain itself any longer without intervention. As a result, he needs to start Kidney Dialysis, undergo Chemotherapy, then a Bone Marrow Transplant AND a Kidney Transplant in order to save his life. This is not without great risk & much difficulty.

They will be traveling 3 days a week, potentially more, to Albany Medical Center & Boston Children’s Hospital for dialysis until he is eligible for a Kidney Transplant- which is estimated to be over a year from now. Gavin's Doctors have told the family that he could be admitted to Boston Children’s Hospital for nearly 1 year. To protect his compromised immune system, he will be required to be isolated once this process begins. This will force the Jerzack family to be separated from one another & apart from his sister Grace for extended periods of time.

The financial burden on the Jerzack family will be immense. We ask you to support this amazing local family as they embark on another incredibly difficult journey. With your help, we can make a small difference during a very trying time. The Jerzaks are one of the most genuine, giving & special families I have ever met and am lucky enough to call friends. Working as a teacher & in the local hospital, they give back to the community on a daily basis.
