Help Frank Peacock Recover and Heal ❤️
Dear Family and Friends,
My dad, Frank Peacock, aged 67, suffered a massive Ischemic stroke at my parents home in Florida, USA, on the morning of April 23, 2020. The entire left side of his brain is severely damaged.
The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body. My dad is right handed and therefore his right side is his dominant side; it is now completely paralysed. It is highly unlikely that my dad will ever recover the full use of his right side again, if any at all.
The left side of the brain also controls all speech and language capabilities, along with logic, numeracy and reading. My dad can’t speak and he doesn’t know how to communicate. He also can’t understand most of what is being said to him. This condition is called Global Aphasia.
My dads speech and language will never recover to what it once was. We will be extremely lucky if he will ever be able to say anything ever again.
On April 28th, my dad was discharged from the ICU to be able to go to rehabilitation. Given his neurologist had told us only two days before that he might not live, we know that we have witnessed a miracle.
We are hoping that after my dad finishes rehabilitation, he will be able to come home and live with my mom again. There are a lot of modifications to their house that will need to be made to accommodate my dad that insurance will not cover. Some of these items include: wheelchair accessibility ramps, grab rails, physical therapy equipment.
In order to have any hope of my dad being able to communicate again, he will need years of speech therapy. Some of this will be covered by insurance, some of it won’t.
My dad will also require daily home healthcare, occupational therapy and physical therapy. Some of this will be covered by insurance, but some of it won’t.
My mom will need to get a modified vehicle to accommodate my dads new mobility issues so that she can drive him back and forth to outpatient therapy once he’s able to attend.
My mom and dad were both in the United States Navy and are both Vietnam Veterans. My dad worked as a civilian contractor for the United States Marine Corps for over a decade supporting our troops both at home and abroad as a technological ninja. My dad is a completely selfless man who will drop anything he’s doing, at any time, to help someone - without them ever having to ask - and he’ll make them laugh while he’s doing it. My parents are salt of the earth people who have both worked every day of their lives until they retired last year. They are not wealthy in money but they are wealthy in love; they have been married for 44 years. They live on their social security (pensions) in their modest house in Florida with their little terrier dog. They had dreamed of a quiet future together filled with walking on the beach and camping trips and visits from their only grandchild. I am their only child and I live in London, UK. I am here to help now, but eventually I will have to go home to take care of my son Jackson, leaving my mom with the unthinkably daunting task of caring for my dad on her own.
This is where you come in. We know that the current situation in the world has affected everyone’s finances. We would be grateful if you could donate whatever money you could. Any funds that are raised will go specifically towards giving my dad the best possible life and care, with the amount of therapy he needs to maybe get him back to some semblance of who he was.
We have been so overwhelmed already by all of your kindness and prayers, you have been holding us up and encouraging us not to lose hope and faith; I don’t know where we would be right now if not for you.
Bless You All,
Amber Peacock Slack
