Hi. We are Francis’s family. If you are reading this, you are someone that Francis trusts and loves.
Francis has spent the last 17 years of his life dedicated to public service, for the city that he loves, and the friends and family that he loves.
Francis never thought he would get cancer. He thought he was invincible. He’s youngish, fit and healthy. Cancer was never a thought on his mind. In late October, Francis went into the hospital for a biopsy on a swollen lymph node. After numerous tests, he was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
Being diagnosed with cancer has been the most challenging fight of Francis’ life. Francis continues to struggle with this new reality constantly mentally and emotionally. But Francis is still here today because of the love and care of his friends and family.
As part of Francis’ treatment, he has been getting chemotherapy at UCSF and taking a cocktail of medicines that require precise timing.
Francis has been responding well to the treatment, but he still has a long road ahead of him. He has months of chemotherapy ahead, recovery and will need follow up surveillance visits to monitor for relapse.
As he has battled cancer, Francis has had a lot of time to contemplate what is most important to him, and that’s his love for his family, friends, and City.
Francis has lost his hair and a few pounds that he could not afford to lose. There is a lot about cancer that does not get shared, including side effects of treatment and the emotional toll of the diagnosis and everything that comes with it-weeks in the hospital, frequent doctor visits, and so many pills
Francis is lucky to have his job with the City as it has provided Cadillac health insurance. However, Francis has incurred, and will continue to incur a generous amount of non-reimbursed expenses.
We are asking for donations for non-insurable treatments and costs. We are humbled if you would consider donating to help Francis out.
Francis will also use this fund to support others facing cancer through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Our goal is to provide aid and support to those in need.
Thank you for your care and support of Francis during his cancer journey.
Sincerely,
Diana (Francis’s sister) and Cathy (Francis’s cousin)
