My Journey
I am a widowed 65yr old Gramma.
2012
In 2012 I was diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma (cancer of the eye). I have been through radiation to my eye. The tumor was sterilized. I went through blisters on eye, eyelids and inside my eye, and vessels were destroyed, I had to have a shot in my eye to dry up the fluid from the leaking vessels.
2014
In March of 2014, they found another tumor which resulted in the loss of my eye. I went 8 weeks wearing a patch while an Ocularist made a protheistist for my eye socket. I had to travel to San Francisco several times for fittings, all the while trying to make sure I had friends provide transportation.
2015
In December of 2015, I was diagnosed with Matastic Melanoma. The Cancer had Mastazied from my eye to my liver, & gallbladder even before the eye was removed. Now I am at stage 4 and have 5 tumor cluster in my liver and 1 on my gallbladder, and undergoing Chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy
My Chemotherapy is a new trial drug Keytruda (1 treatment every 3 weeks). This drugs side effects are exhaustion, diarrhea, vomiting and a list a mile long of others. So far, I have had 1 treatment and have 17 more to go, and am already displaying a few of the side effects.
Why & What I need help with:
I need to take medical leave but can’t afford not to work. I have living expenses such as rent, insurance, out of pocket medical expenses, food, utilities.
What I amThankful for:
I also know, I can’t do this without each of you. Asking for help, and especially in such a public way, is such an uncomfortable thing for me. It's just not something I do. It took me swallowing some pride to ask for help, and then to have such an outpour of support is very humbling. I wish I could thank and hug every single person who has said kind words, or prayed for me. But there are just so many people, from all over, I know I can't keep up. I have been brought to tears so many times by how incredibly blessed I am to have such wonderful family (church family also) and friends. Even beyond that! I've had people I don't even know support me.
With all of this happening during the holidays, I wanted to tell you that you have helped me more than you could ever know and this keeps me strong through this ordeal.
