Hi, everyone. This is an extremely difficult (and humiliating) thing for me to do, but I’ve run out of other options.
As some of you know, I was hospitalized for Covid about a year ago and diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called EGPA. The blood vessels are inflamed and cause tissue and organ damage. They put me on Nucala which is supposed to do what steroids do but without the side effects. But in early spring, shortly after they had weaned me off the steroids, my severe lung problems returned.
I missed 6+ months of work. I was eventually put back on daily steroids and my health improved greatly. In early November I began substitute teaching but by then I was in an extremely bad financial situation and about to lose my apartment. I had contacted the Rental Assistance Program of Chicago and was told I should qualify for assistance. I turned in all the required documents over two months ago but after repeated attempts, no one will get back with me.
The landlord has let me stay pending that assistance, but now I’m in big trouble.
My heat went out about a month ago, but I haven’t been able to ask the landlord to fix it when I owe him so much. I was using the oven to help heat the apartment and then a couple weeks ago, that stopped working too.
I’m behind on everything, but keeping my home is all I care about right now.
$2200 is what I still owe. I’m so sorry to ask for this help. I really am. But I’m on the verge of homelessness and I truly don’t know what else to do but reach out.
I’d be thrilled to do a simple 10x10” painting for anyone who donates $50 or more.
