My dear sister Michelle needs our help. She was recently diagnosed with cancer for the third time. Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 31, then developed ovarian cancer at 41. At this time she was tested for the BRCA 1 breast cancer gene and was found to be positive. Her ovarian cancer tumor had metastasized to other internal organs and we all knew her cancer could potentially return. And here it is. And here she is, going through chemotherapy for the third time.
Michelle is a single mom of three girls, and the sickness from her chemo has now forced her to temporarily stop working as a respiratory therapist at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Michelle moved back to Albany, GA during this past year to be closer to our parents, but because she has not been with her current employer for over one year, she does not qualify for disability benefits. When she started with her current employer, she signed up for, and has been paying for, additional health insurance coverage if diagnosed with cancer. The purpose was to supplement income if diagnosed. Now the insurance company is refusing to pay her this benefit, saying this is only meant to cover first time cancers.
In addition to all of this, the past several times Michelle has gone in for her chemotherapy, they have not been able to administer the medicine because her blood counts were too low. So she has first had to undergo blood transfusions in order to raise her blood counts. This is an incredibly difficult process for her which makes her very weak and sick, and is delaying her treatment plan, which will keep her out of work longer.
Michelle is an unbelievable woman, and has spent her entire life giving to others. She is beautiful, brave, strong, giving, hilarious, an incredible mother, an incredible sister and daughter, and is always the life of the party. She has dedicated her entire life to her three daughters, she is truly such a wonderful mother. She has gone through this twice before and has never asked anyone for help. But this time, she is in such difficult circumstances, it is mind boggling. I wish I were in a financial position to take this stress away from her completely. But I am not. And she needs all of our love and support during this time in her life. She quite frankly needs our help.
Please consider making a financial contribution, every little bit will help. If we can all help alleviate the enormous financial stress she is under, our hope is she can focus on healing, and get back to her normal wonderful self. We love you so much Michelle.
