Monica's Volunteer Trip!
Donation protected
Hi guys! My name is Monica and I'm a second year student at San Francisco State University. I am hoping to raise enough money to help fund my upcoming volunteer trip this summer in Nicaragua, an expedition associated with the Growth International Volunteer Excursions (GIVE) program.
During my time there, I will be working alongside the local community members of both the rural fishing village of Jiquilillo on the Pacific Coast, as well as the Caribbean beach communities of Little Corn Island. While there, I will provide assistance in building important infrastructures made out of eco-friendly material, help teach the local children English, contribute to the freshwater eco-system clean up, and release baby sea turtles as a way to help protect the endangered Hawksbill species.
My excursion is scheduled to begin July 8, 2016 and I will return July 22, 2016. Although it may seem far into the future, I am hoping to receive aid due to the passport, flight, and medical expenses that are approaching faster than the trip itself is! I have already begun to start saving as I work nearly 30 plus hours a week as a barista at a local San Francisco Starbucks, although all the assistance I am donated will be greatly appreciated!
In all honesty, this trip means the world to me because I have loved to volunteer ever since I knew how much of a difference my small help could make. In the past, I have volunteered for the San Francisco Zoo, the local church's organization to give back to those less fortunate or those in need of assistance (provide food, clothes and toys to homeless/ low income natives), and volunteer at a nursing home doing nursing assistant duties which also helped me gain a greater passion for wanting to help others as a career. For this trip specifically, I believe it would only allow me to become more humble and gain a greater love or want to do even more volunteer work in the future.
Thank you to anyone and everyone who took the time to read my story and help allow me to have the opportunity to achieve my goal and volunteer on this adventure of a life time! I appreciate the chance to even have this amazing experience and please feel free to share with anyone who is just as passionate about volunteering as I am!
If anyone wants to know more about my expedition, please feel free to learn more at: givevolunteers.org
