Support for Jenny Wengerd's Family
Donation protected
My name is Jenny Yoder and this fundraiser is in remembrance of Jenny Wengerd and in support of her family. We are raising money so that Doug will not have to worry about medical bills and the loss of Jenny’s income during such a trying time.
Jennifer (Jenny) Lee Wengerd, 47, passed away on Friday, September 11th after suffering a sudden and significant brain hemorrhage. She leaves behind her husband Doug and sons Benjamin (13) and Isaiah (10). Here is the story of her final days:
On Wednesday evening, September 2, Jenny suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. She underwent emergency surgery early Thursday morning to relieve brain pressure. She remained in the Surgical ICU on a ventilator and under sedation for one week.
Many conversations took place during that week about Jenny’s prognosis and it became evident that the brain damage from the hemorrhage was catastrophic. After much prayer and discernment, Doug and Jenny's family members decided to remove life support for Jenny. With deep sadness, Jenny was released into the arms of God on Wednesday, September 9. Family members surrounded Jenny praying, singing many hymns, and crying.
On Friday, September 11, Jenny was still holding on. The family decided to transport her to spend her last hours in a home setting in the home of Jenny’s brother and sister-in-law, with the assistance of hospice care.
Jenny passed away at 4:54 p.m. on September 11th, less than four hours after she arrived at the home. Perhaps she waited to be in this space, in the comfort of home with family around her, to pass on into the arms of her Creator. Doug, Benjamin and Isaiah were able to spend time with her with the peace that she is now in a better place.
It has been a month of many tears, prayers, questions, and decisions. It’s also been a month of enormous gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, meals, help with the boys’ after school activities, and other practical needs that have been met at a local level. We also know that Jenny and Doug have many friends who don’t live nearby, but who would like to show their support in a tangible way to Doug and the boys.
Doug would greatly appreciate any donations you would like to offer. Any funds that you donate will go directly to Doug to assist with medical bills and the loss of income. Additionally, Doug does not have insurance through his work. He pays out of pocket for expensive health insurance. Doug faces many, many expenses. As difficult as the last month has been, the days, months, and years ahead will continue to be so as Doug and the boys adjust to life without their beloved wife and mom.
Thank you so much for reading Jenny’s story, although it feels odd to call this “Jenny’s story”, as Jenny was so much more than what’s been described in the words above. If you’d like to learn more about the Jenny we loved so much, please click on this link: Jenny Wengerd Obituary
Many thanks, and God Bless You.
