Hi, my name is Cheryl Taylor and I am doing this Go Fund Me for my daughter Nicole Hogan. On Monday, November 15, Nicole thought she would be sitting in her tree stand waiting to bag a big buck. Instead she took herself to the hospital to get a Covid test. She woke up three days prior with a bad cough and sore throat. As the weekend went on, a high fever developed (104.5). She tested positive for Covid on November 15 and went home to fight as hard as she could on her own. By Wednesday she still had a high fever and was having some difficulty catching her breath. I bought a pulse/oxygen monitor at the local drug store and dropped it off on her porch. When she checked her oxygen level, it was 84 which is very low. Nicole immediately drove herself to our local hospital and they admitted her Wednesday evening.
When they admitted her, she was initially on 3L of oxygen but that quickly increased over the next few days to 15L. The doctor felt that Nicole needed to be in a higher level hospital, one equipped with an ICU which our local hospital does not have. After calling over 10 hospitals and being told repeatedly that they didn't have any Covid beds available, finally on Friday night at 12:30 am, Nicole was transferred via ambulance to McLaren Macomb Hospital where she was admitted into ICU. Both Harbor Beach Hospital and McLaren have taken excellent care of her and last night, she was moved out of ICU and into a regular Covid room. Nicole has been on a high flow oxygen machine that is pushing the oxygen into her lungs at 80% and she also has a 15L non rebreather mask to use if the high flow oxygen if she is required to get out of bed. The doctors game plan right now is to have Nicole move more in bed, sit at the edge of the bed and possibly a chair, slowly back down her oxygen usage and get her caught up on sleep. When she does get to go home, she will go home on oxygen for an undetermined amount of time and may require therapy.
Why am I doing this Go Fund Me for Nicole? Nicole has exhausted all of her paid time off (PTO) from her employer so this week and until she is cleared to return to work, is time off without pay. She has no idea how long she will be in the hospital or how long she will be off work. Because Nicole recently purchased her first home, she used up most of her savings to cover closing costs, down payment and moving expenses. There will definitely be some out of pocket medical expenses due to her stay in the hospital and 2 hour ambulance ride so this Go Fund Me is to help her with the uncovered medical expenses as well as living expenses while she is out of work (mortgage, car payment, insurance, gas, electric, phone etc). We appreciate any support you can give to help ease some of the financial burden off of Nicole. Thank You!
