Hola familia,

As you all know, Gio (Mex) is a guerrero and has been battling Stage 4 Colon Cancer since 2023. His love for his community, art, as well as your energy, love, and support has kept him fighting ever since ✊❤️

Gio is now on his Hospice Care Journey. I am making a new GoFundMe to ensure him and his beautiful mother are taken care of during this time, and whatever comes next.

What Happened?

On 2/22/25, Gio asked me to take him to the hospital for a very painful mass and ended up being hospitalized for 25 days. During his stay, he had two emergency surgeries, many tests and scans.

Unfortunately, his tests showed that the walls of his colon had been torn by the tumor, causing a massive infection in his body. His scans also showed that the Cancer spread to many more areas, all inoperable (bladder, prostate, liver, lungs, even areas outside of his body). Sadly, his latest treatment- Immunotherapy- had only accelerated the growth of the Cancer.

He fought to recover from his two surgeries, but continued to have 2-3 high fevers every day, even with the strongest antibiotics, for three weeks.

Several doctors, blood cultures, and tests later, they determined that one of his tumors had become necrotic and caused the infection to enter his blood - an infection that cannot be controlled and would only continue to return.

This is when it was decided that Gio would come home on Hospice care. The goal now is comfort, pain control, and as much love and quality of life as possible. I am now his primary caregiver with help from his beautiful mother and the Hospice care team.

We cannot express our gratitude enough to everyone who has been there, supported the previous GoFundMe, and kept him in your prayers... we promise they have not been in vain✊ you gave him so much strength and a reason to keep fighting.

Hola familia,

Como todos saben, Gio (Mex) es un guerrero y ha estado luchando contra el cáncer de colon en etapa 4 desde 2023. Su amor por su comunidad y el arte, así como su energía, amor y apoyo, lo han mantenido en la lucha desde entonces. ✊❤️

Gio ha iniciado ahora su camino en cuidados paliativos (Hospice Care). Estoy creando un nuevo GoFundMe para asegurar que tanto él como su hermosa madre estén cuidados durante este tiempo y lo que venga después.

¿Qué pasó?

El 22 de febrero de 2025, Gio me pidió que lo llevara al hospital debido a una masa extremadamente dolorosa, y terminó siendo hospitalizado por 25 días. Durante su estancia, tuvo dos cirugías de emergencia, además de numerosos exámenes y estudios.

Lamentablemente, los resultados mostraron que las paredes de su colon se habían desgarrado debido al tumor, lo que causó una infección masiva en su cuerpo. Los estudios también revelaron que el cáncer se había propagado a muchas más áreas, todas inoperables (vejiga, próstata, hígado, pulmones e incluso zonas fuera de su cuerpo). Tristemente, su último tratamiento —Inmunoterapia— solo aceleró el crecimiento del cáncer.

Luchó por recuperarse de sus cirugías, pero continuó teniendo 2-3 fiebres altas cada día, incluso con los antibióticos más fuertes, durante tres semanas.

Después de múltiples consultas médicas, cultivos de sangre y pruebas, los médicos determinaron que uno de sus tumores se había necrosado, permitiendo que la infección entrara en su sangre—una infección que no puede ser controlada y que seguiría reapareciendo.

Fue entonces cuando se decidió que Gio regresara a casa bajo cuidados paliativos (Hospice Care). El objetivo ahora es su comodidad, el control del dolor y brindarle tanto amor y calidad de vida como sea posible. Ahora soy su cuidadora principal, con el apoyo de su hermosa madre y el equipo de cuidados paliativos.

No podemos expresar nuestra gratitud lo suficiente a todos los que han estado ahí, apoyaron el GoFundMe anterior y lo han mantenido en sus oraciones... les prometemos que no han sido en vano. ✊ Gracias a ustedes, Gio encontró tanta fuerza y una razón para seguir luchando.

A pesar de este pronóstico, como dice su mamá: "Mientras hay vida, hay esperanza." La comunicación de Mex ahora es muy limitada, pero su mensaje y legado PERMANECEN. ✊❤️‍
