Our Chapter House needs you!
Last Summer Maine Alpha was suspended from the University for 5 years and is not allowed to occupy the Chapter House during that period. Minerva Housing Corps is still paying off $90k left on a note from the fire a decade ago but has depleted its liquidity and without income, the monthly payment cannot be maintained. We have a tentative agreement with another fraternity to inhabit the house under a five year lease. However, the House has been vacant since and the sprinkler pump and multiple pipes froze this past winter. These repairs need to be addressed before we can pursue an occupancy permit and other leasehold improvements are necessary to accommodate our prospective tenant. There are two directions here. Inaction. The result is we default on our loan and the University as guarantor gets the house and it’s gone forever. Or action. We raise the capital to make the repairs and get the house rented, thereby solidifying the chapter house’s position in Maine Alpha’s future. This is neither an exercise in frivolity nor a scare tactic. This is a real situation with real consequences. Please take a minute to reminisce about how Maine Alpha has affected your life from the friends you've maintained, the women you’ve married, or your career path because we need to act swiftly and generously. Brothers, it is time to give back to ensure the House endures! Hopefully we will not only meet our fundraising goal, but exceed it to provide long term sustainability. There is too much history and there are too many memories to let this goal fail!
